Irregular trapezoidal shaped plank from parasol consignment; back has burnt-in inscription, "ara" and "ne pas mettre". Contour lines and shallow reductions were made with a pocket knife. The right-hand side of the block has been broken off in a semi-circular shape along the annual rings of the tree-growth and the wood has been roughly planed with the blade of the knife. Three oblique thin lines are visible and clearly appeared as the wood was being worked. The block became warped so that the carved area is on the inside of the warp. The entire carved area has a large very visible lengthwise crack.
