Crouching Figure with Plumes, 1967

Heavy impasto oil with palette knife & brush on Masonite, 40" x 40". Dead chickens, pheasant, quail, peacocks and other birds were a favorite subject. The "Nam Squat" is reminiscent of the postures taken by Vietnamese; the war was very much on his mind at this time. The figures and landscape behind the foreground figure are the Pacific coastline near Santa Barbara.
