Houses Along Highway 15, 1964

Heavy oil impasto with palette knife & brush on Masonite board, 20" x 24". Very subdued colors mark this period; the sun is outlined in black, mountains, road and houses are all heavily outlined as well. The darker, murky pigments are not a result of time, but of intention. They look essentially the same now as they did when this painting was produced in 1964 on a day-trip to Barstow.
