Self-Portrait, 1945

Heavy impasto oils on Masonite board, 30" x 40"; this important painting is the only surviving self-portrait of the period. It was acquired by fellow Expressionist, artist E.J. Gold from Joan Ankrum, who owned the gallery which showed Schwaderer, Burkhardt, Gorky, Gold and Hirschfeld during the 1960s and 70s.
