The Museum of Ancient and Modern Art (MAMA) under the direction of Zoe Alowan, Children's Art Director, is proud to present an art exchange program between children in Ubud, Bali and children at MAMA's weekly art classes.
This summer, while on sabbatical in Ubud, Zoe visited the Pondok Pekak Library and Learning Center. The Children's Librarian invited her to paint with the children in the homeschool program at the library in Ubud, Bali.
When Zoe described the Museum of Ancient and Modern Art's (MAMA) weekly art classes for children held at The Madelyn Helling Library in Nevada County, the children all decided to create paintings to send back with her to the children in the U.S.A.
Now the young artists in MAMA's Saturday Morning Children's Art Class have reciprocated. Thirty young artists have completed paintings ( with titles in both English and Bahasa Indonesian ) and a group mural. The paintings will be sent as a gift to Ubud's Pondak Pekak Library where they will be on display during the month of January.
The show, A CULTURAL CHILDREN'S EXCHANGE; ART FROM BALI TO MAMA & MAMA TO BALI is currently on display at The Madelyn Helling Children's Library Room. The show will culminate with a reception on Saturday, December 6th, from 11:30 to 12:00 noon. As part of the reception Zoe will share stories, music and dance from Bali. Following that event the paintings will be packed up and sent to Pondok Pekak Library for display there.
